Announcement time! I’m incredibly excited to let you know that the first ever AppStorm book (in conjunction with Rockable Press) is coming soon!
If you’ve ever thought about developing an iPhone app (or even if you already have), this book will be a fascinating read. It will provide you with all the knowledge and technique you need to spot a great opportunity, get the most from the App Store, make smart decisions about development, craft a stunning interface, and promote your app successfully.
I’ve conducted a series of interviews with some phenomenally successful iPhone developers that have kindly shared their expertise, and also completed a fascinating survey of over 1,000 iPhone users and developers.

We’re going to be making a few changes at iPhone.AppStorm over the coming weeks, including some new types of post, a more frequent publishing schedule, and generally much more app awesomeness! There’s a lot to look forward to, and I’m really excited about what we have planned.
Part of this change involves taking on a brand new site editor for iPhone.AppStorm. I’d like to introduce the multi-talented Josh Johnson, who will be taking over the day-to-day running of this site from now on. Josh is an avid iPhone fan, Mac user, general Apple extraordinaire, and the perfect person to take up the iPhone.AppStorm torch!
Thank you to every one of our amazing visitors who takes time out of their day to read AppStorm, and I hope you’ll join me in giving Josh a warm welcome to the team!
For four years the Envato Marketplaces have helped authors around the world earn an income selling their digital wares. Along the way we’ve grown from one marketplace to seven, with more on the way. We’ve gone from hundreds of members to hundreds of thousands. Items from our marketplaces have appeared in projects for companies big and small, all around the world. And most importantly of all, we’ve had thousands of authors cash out earnings, ranging from a bit of money for a big weekend to sums in the tens of thousands of dollars a month!
It’s been an amazing ride, and here at Envato along with our commitment to growing AppStorm, we are completely committed to making our marketplaces the best around. That’s why I’m very excited today to announce that as of the end of September we are rolling out some dramatically improved rates for all our exclusive authors! (more…)
You love great iPhone apps. Why not make them?
Envato, the creators of iPhone.AppStorm, have launched a new website dedicated to free education on mobile development. It’s called Mobiletuts+. We’ll walk you down the path of making your first simple fortune cookie app with the iPhone SDK, learning Objective-C, and eventually adding more advanced features to your apps.
If you’ve never done iPhone development before, or consider yourself a beginner, don’t worry – the site will grow with its users. We’re starting with the basics, then moving on to more advanced stuff. Soon enough we’ll have a repository of free content for all skill levels – beginner, intermediate, and advanced.
The content at Mobiletuts+ is written by professional developers, top-selling book authors and programming mavens. We hope you’ll be blown away by the quality of what we have to offer.
We’re announcing a new type of post on iPhone.AppStorm today: Quick Look. These short application overviews will give you a description, a few screenshots, and basic information about a particular piece of software. They’re sponsored, so developers pay a small fee to have their app featured in a Quick Look post.
At the end of each post we’ll have a poll for readers to vote in. If you like what you see, you can vote for us to write a full (completely unbiased) review of the software in question.
It’s a great way to find out about new applications you haven’t come across before and a great way for developers to get the word out about their new app. We’ll have a few of these posts appearing over the course of this week so you’ll be able to see how they work.
Quick Look posts will be in addition to our regular publishing schedule here at AppStorm. So you’ll continue getting the same great reviews, roundups and guides, plus you’ll now get Quick Looks at new and interesting apps!
We’re very excited by the prospect of showcasing more apps, finding AppStorm a new revenue source to help us grow, and giving developers a promotional tool to market their work. We’d love to hear your feedback on this addition, so feel free to leave a comment or send us an email.
Promote Your App on Quick Look
If you’d like to have your application featured, Quick Look posts cost $49 and will help you reach an audience of people who love their iPhone! Fill in this form to reserve a post.
We’re pleased to announce the launch of the third member in the AppStorm network of sites: iPhone.AppStorm!
Complimenting Mac.AppStorm and Web.AppStorm, the new site will be offering reviews and roundups of iPhone software, along with tips and tricks to get the most from your iPhone or iPod touch. Whether you’re a web designer, writer, photographer, gamer or developer, we have some fantastic content in store for you over the coming months. We’ll also be launching another weekly iPhone comic strip by the talented NC Winters!
As ever, there are various ways to keep up-to-date with what’s happening at iPhone.AppStorm. You can subscribe to our RSS feed, follow us on Twitter, or stop by our Facebook page to become a fan. Whichever you choose, I’m looking forward to hearing what you have to say about the site.
What Do You Want to See?
So, I hope you’re as excited about the new site as I am! My iPhone is, hands down, the most useful piece of technology I’ve ever owned. There are over 100,000 apps out there, and we can’t wait to get started reviewing them.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on the new site, and the direction you would like to see it take. Are you interested in roundups of different types of app, or would you prefer in-depth reviews? What would you like to be able to do with your iPhone that you struggle to at the moment? And, most importantly, which applications would you like to win?! Have your say in the comments, and let us know what you’d like to see.
Here’s to the future of iPhone.AppStorm!
