The new iPhone should be out this fall, and per usual, there’s a lot of talk about this next iPhone coming in more colors than just black and white. The iPod touch already has several color options, why not the iPhone, right?
Let’s pretend that you’re the person in charge of the decision. What do you think? Should the next iPhone come in more colors than black and white, or is it just fine as is? Let us know in the poll to the right!
The iPhone gave us the ability to have our music and our phone in one convenient location: our pocket. No longer did we have to juggle a cell phone and an iPod, it was all in one unit. But what about that Music app, huh? Not so great. It’s one of the weak links in the iOS ecosystem, if only because it’s just so clunky and awkward to use. If only there was a cool app that could take Music’s place. If only …
Let me introduce you to Beat Music Player. First off, it’s just a buck, so it’s not pricey. Second, it’s beautiful — and I don’t say that lightly. The app not only has a great collection of clean and simple fonts, but every song plays against a spectacular etherial background. Oh, and there’s the cool touch interface, too.
But let me back up a minute so I can give Beat its due. Let’s say that you want to listen to an album on your iPhone, but you’re driving so you don’t want to have to check it all the time to switch tracks. Open up Beat Music Player, start the album and let the car ride begin. When you want to skip tracks, albums, playlists or any number of different tasks, just swipe the phone with your thumb to navigate through the various elements. And if you have your iPhone propped up on the dash, you can pick between a number of pretty backgrounds that won’t distract you like album art might, but still provide a nice look. It’s safer, better looking and easier to use than the stock Music app. That’s good enough for me.

We do a lot of weekly sponsorships here, but there’s something you should probably know. We don’t just do these reviews for everyone who wants one; we hand pick every one to make sure it fits our standards. That’s why you should know that we picked Beat Music Player because it serves a function: play music on your iPhone, but do it better, cleaner and prettier than the stock app. Not only does it do it well, but so much so that it became my new primary music app.
If there’s higher praise than that, I can’t think of what it could be. There’s no better way for you to spend a buck.
I’m not a huge sports guy, but out of the big four U.S. leagues, the MLB is my deal. I grew up outside of Boston, and being a kid from that area means you’re required to like the Boston Red Sox. Seriously, I think it’s a law.
And despite their rough 2012, things are looking up so far in 2013, and so I wanted to find an app that helped me keep up on the current happenings but didn’t have a ton of extra stuff going on. That app is Race to the Pennant. Spoiler: It’s awesome. (more…)
I check the weather constantly, and I prefer the app I use to look nice. If I have to be constantly peeking into something ugly, I’m going to stop peeking. That’s how I end up in a rainstorm without my umbrella or wearing three cardigans in blistering sun. Apparently, “the sky looks cold” lacks accuracy, and I really need help finding a good weather app.
Speaking of good weather apps, Good Weather looks great, stores multiple locations, has built-in minigames and comes with more whimsy than you could shake a very whimsical stick at. But how does it hold up as a weather app? Let’s try it out! (more…)
Hold on to your hats, folks. This week brings us a number of tremendous new App Store gaming experiences, including two major franchise sequels and a somewhat fishy new title from Halfbrick.
It’s going to be a fun-filled weekend, so join us after the break to stock up on our latest gaming recommendations! (more…)
Gameloft is quickly becoming known for their iOS ‘copies’ of popular console/PC games. I reviewed Order and Chaos a while back, which was and still is the closest thing you’ll get to World of Warcraft on your iPhone or iPad.
Well, they’re at it again with their new title, Heroes of Order and Chaos. Retaining the environments and characters of the OaC world, this game is a MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena) title that clearly takes inspiration from the hugely popular PC title, League of Legends.
Let’s see how it fares, after the jump. (more…)
Moves is so much more than a pedometer. In addition to keeping track of how many steps you take every day, the app can automatically recognize whether you’re walking, cycling or running, plus chart your route on a map and more. All you have to do is carry your iPhone in your pocket or in a bag.
Best of all, it visualizes your daily, weekly and monthly activity, allowing you to set and achieve simple goals for yourself. I’ll show you how it works after the jump. (more…)
As a freelancer, it is important to keep track of how much time I spend on each project I am working on. Yet, when it comes to tracking my time, I quite honestly suck at it. It is one of those things that I always think I will remember to mark down later and almost always forget.
Recently I came across a web app called Toggl. The simplicity of Toggl, together with the data it can capture and breakdown for me, meant I fell in love with the app straight away. But I quickly realised that I don’t always have my computer with me when I need to track my time. Therefore, when I saw that there was an iPhone app, I wanted to know how the Toggl Timer compared to the Toggl web version. Let’s find out. (more…)
