Camera+ has to be the best app for me imo. I use Instagram to share photos with others.

  • Aaron

Thanks, Its a great list, now I just need enough space and money on my iPhone to try each one of them. I use Instagram, Hipstamtic and 360 panorama, all three very good.

There is one more which I use every day to keep up with the breaking news, tutorials, reviews etc in Photography it is called PhotoVerse http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/photoverse/id409160185?mt=8&ls=1

BTW, Great compilation, will check out a few more.

  • Sam

I also recommend FotoVotr! A great way to see, vote for, and upload awesome photography on the go! http://bit.ly/FVApp

Definitely check out “Video Edit” http://videoeditapp.com. It’s probably the most beautifully designed video editor on the market and is quite literally 10x faster than all the other apps I’ve tried.

    • http://optidigit.com Justin Feroz

For video editing I prefer to use “Splice” http://www.spliceapp.com/ The free version is fully functional just like the paid version but u have to deal with ads.

Vimeo users can download their app, shoot edit and upload to Vimeo all in one app. They’ve also included some generic filters.

ProCamea is the greatest! It’s Verizon iPhone compatible. It has an exclusive Expert Mode for separate focus/exposure and White Balance adjustment. Other features are: Fullscreen Trigger, Anti-Shake Image Stabilizer, 6x HQ Digital Zoom in full resolution, Virtual Horizon, alignment grids, digital Flash, Direct one-touch video recorder access, extended Geotagging with compass direction and full EXIF data…

I also love the 3 studios for after effects: Pro FX Studio offers one-touch effects to transform photos to arts; Pro Lab Studio has scene modes and can do auto-improvements; Pro Cut Studio can crop/rotate/flip photos and cut with pre-defined ratios.

    Check it out: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/procamera/id300216827?mt=8

Thanks for compiling this list. It’s probably one of the most comprehensive lists I’ve seen. Camera+ by @taptaptap is one of the best camera replacement and editing apps I’ve used and it seems Camera Genius may be another that resembles Camera+. I’m going to DL it right now and give it a go.

I got a color calibration app for iPhone 4.
    http://itunes.apple.com/app/id414237923
When you take photos under fluorescent lighting,
    this app corrects greenish color.

  • http://www.bretedge.com Bret Edge

Thanks for a great list of apps! I just downloaded PocketScout thanks to the suggestion by Matt Strickland. I’ve been looking for an app just like this and I’m eager to use it soon in Death Valley.

Another app to try: iFotoGuide. They’re comprehensive guides to photographing the national parks. Currently available are Arches, Yosemite and Grand Canyon with Yellowstone on the way. See them at http://www.ifotoguide.com or:

If you have a DSLR (or any camera w/o a GPS) and would like to geotag your photos, “gps4cam” is very interesting (for a fraction of the price of a real GPS add-on for cameras). Since I have discovered and installed it on my iPhone, I never forget to turn it on each time I go for a walk with my camera!

  • ben Dixon

Does anybody know of an app I can use on my 3GS that will allow me to do the finger spread on a pic and then take a pic again of what I just zoomed in on? In other words say I take a pic of my dog and it turns out great but it shows the dirty clothes on the floor so I zoom in until just the dog is in the shot can I then take a pic of the new and improved pic?

    thanx, ben

CineCrop was left off of this list! It’s a great app for cropping your pictures to cinematic aspect ratios! If you want your picture to look like it’s a blockbuster movie, give it a try :)

I wanted to know if there was an app that you could place another picture on top. I was taking a picture of my husband’s senior ring and come to find out, after taking this beautiful picture that one of the stones had fell out. I cropped the picture to where all you saw was a gem an I want to just place it on there but I haven’t found an app that will allow me to do that. Please help?

    • Karine

      Helle @Cassie
You can use Picboost ! Allows to place a layer containing another picture on top of yours.

Excellent round up! Now I’m having a hard time choosing photography apps to download/purchase because most of the ones mentioned in here look totally cool. By the way, I’d like to recommend Snap-A-Note by Rainbow Riders. It’s a very simple photography app. It doesn’t have the filters or what not, but it has a built-in mailing system that lets you send the photos you take right in your email, which can be pretty useful if you want to edit them later on or if you want to have back up copies. The link is: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/id473437307?mt=8&ign-mpt=uo%3D4. Thanks again for this post!

  • Luis

Thanks for the list, I will review some of these apps.

I use Hipstamatic, filterstorm (very nice in iPad), AutoStich panorama and some times iTimelapse for time lapse videos. Another aplication that I use is GeoTag Album http://www.geotagalbum.com to organize pictures in albums, upload to picasa, make a pdf an view a map of my albums.

I’ve fallen in love with the app PicFX. They have a huge collection of high-quality filters including lighting and textures. You can adjust the transparency of each filter and it has a layering feature. You can add or subtract as many layers as you’d like. They update the app every couple of months, and frequently you can find it in the app store for free. This is my go-to photo app. :)
