With the launch of our beautiful new website, and it being Christmas and all, we felt a roundup was probably in order! I have put together 21 of the most popular and fun Christmas themed apps for you to pick up from the App Store – from games, to helpful day-to-day task apps, there is sure to be something for everyone!
Read on for a selection of useful and fun apps to fill up your iPhone – and welcome to this fun new world if you’ve just received one for Christmas!
iTree is a virtual snowglobe in the palm of your hand. It works all through the year, so you can watch your tree grow from a seedling, but towards Christmas things start changing up a bit. You might get some presents, you might find your tree gone, and a few days later in your living room… who knows? Just like any snow globe, you can shake your iPhone to animate the snow, and rotate it to make the snow fall different directions with realtime physics!
In this economy, we have to be frugal, and part of being frugal means getting the best deals on just about anything. From a box of cereal to that XBOX 360 game for a Christmas gift, you want to be sure it’s not cheaper somewhere else. That’s where RedLaser comes in. All you have to do is scan the barcode on the item, and wait for RedLaser to show you where around you the item is for sale, how much it costs and where you can get it for cheaper.
This is one of the great Christmas stories of our time, and if you don’t have the book and are marooned at home because of the snow… you don’t have to go to the bookstore! You can just download the book directly to your iPhone and read it aloud to the little ones around you, or let the app read it for you!
As a kid, I remember Christmas Eve looking up at the sky for Santa, and think that every plane, every star was him. Well… times have changed, and now we have Santa Tracking apps for the iPhone so that you can see where he is around the world, and what he is up to. You can even see posts from Santa himself, as well as some of the reindeer!
This is an awesome little game with over 50 levels, and a ton of different mini-games within it. Basically you have to help save the North Pole by thwarting the evil polar bears and fight to save Santa and his elves! There is a free version as well as a paid version of this app.
Welcome to Hell. In this chapter of Pocket Devil, the Winter Underland is your domain, and you get to be a psycho Santa. Search and Destroy the Mugat2 and participate in a few mini-games like “Mugat2 Slapfest” and “Save-a-Mugat2.” This is a chart-topping app and looks to be well worth the dollar you put in.
This makes me laugh… hard. I actually stumbled across this app after seeing it on Attack of the Show’s Around the Web segment, in which the singers are… well.. you’ll see. Apart from that video, the technology is great, and similar to the singing part of Rock Band. Get yourself some eggnog, and have some fun with this one!
Who doesn’t love Christmas Carols? If you don’t have the MP3’s available to stick on your iPhone you can use this handy little app when you are outside freezing your toes off, and it even gives you the lyrics, so you don’t have to worry about forgetting the words!
This is a gorgeous looking pinball game, with great graphics, sound effects and a follow-up to the award-winning Monster Pinball. This is one of the premiere pinball apps in the App Store right now, so you are getting your money’s worth when you throw down 3 bucks.
Another game from Matmi, this one is insanely addictive where you grab stars and snowflakes to keep boosting higher and higher into the heavens, and try to beat your highest score. Super smooth gameplay and awesome graphics make this a really fun little game.
This is a funny, gory, violent, and Christmas-themed game all in one! Santa has to control his elves with the aid of Rudolph feeding him ammo for his uzi’s and flamethrowers, because if he doesn’t, well… the eleves are going to ruin Christmas!
Kids and parents alike can enjoy this little app during the Christmas season. All you do is take some pictures, bring them into the Christmas Camera app, and add features like snow, beards, santa hats, mistletoe, and all kinds of different goodies!
Ahh, you can always count on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim for something as awesome as this. You get the chance to put Santa and his reindeer back together from being brutally mutilated with nothing more than wrapping paper, tape and good will toward men! Have fun!
Some of my favorite games on my iPhone are from Tapulous. I love Tap Tap Revenge, and if you do too, you are going to want to pick up Christmas With Weezer. It’s the Christmas themed pack from Tap Tap Revenge, with the same style and just as much awesomenes… but just a little bit more holiday cheer.
If you are a snowboarder, or you are going up for the first time, you should probably check the conditions first. Well if you don’t have a laptop on you, that could prove to be a little difficult. No matter, you can use the Snocator app to check conditions, preview web cameras and broswse trails.
Again, if you are a snowboarder, this is an app for you. There are 30 missions to complete, awesome 3D graphics, and 16 in-air tricks to perform, and that isn’t even the start of what is in this game! This is a must-have for a snowboarder longing to get back onto the mountain.
Seriously, they aren’t lying. I downloaded this one to see what it was about.. and I didn’t put it down for an hour. All you have to do is keep your box from touching the other shapes, and inside the screen. Sounds easy enough, right? Wrong.
I hope you all enjoyed this roundup of sorts, I will be back in the coming weeks with more goodies to fill your iPhone hard drives up with. I hope that you made out well this Christmas, maybe got some iTunes gift cards, or even a new iPhone!
Anyway, I am going to enjoy the rest of my Christmas dinner, eat some roast beast (kudos to you if you got the Grinch reference), and have myself a merry little Christmas.
Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!
