This is not something that we do here at iPhone.AppStorm. We don’t do interviews with people who have Kickstarter projects, because otherwise that’s all we’d do. But in this case, I will freely admit that I’m biased. That’s because Adam Holcomb from The UDDA is not only a talented artist and designer, but he’s also one of my favorite people.

Adam and I worked together at a magazine in Arizona back in 2008. He was the quiet art director in the corner who only opened his mouth to say something crazy, and I was the new guy who was in a bit over his head. He was — and is — excessively talented in what he does, and that’s why when he approached me about a new iPhone app that he was working on, there was just no way that I could turn him down.

This is the story of Zammis and the Kickstarter project that aims to bring the spirit of Burning Man to the iPhone in a game. (more…)

I saw Monsters University at the theater with my three-year-old son, and it was a mixed bag. It’s a given that the film is about monsters — it’s right there in the title, after all — but how scary would it be? Turns out, quite a bit. In fact, right near the end of the flick (around the time the scariest scene aired), my son asked to go home. Broke my heart.

Two weeks later, I’m looking for apps to review and I find Monsters University, so I give it a shot. My son walks into my office and says, “What’s that, daddy?” and I show him the screen with a bit of hesitation. “Oooh! Mike Wazowski!” Guess it didn’t do that much damage.

But at the end of the day, he’s not the one playing Monsters University, I am. Was it worth the buy? (more…)

Guitar!, a new mobile music game from accomplished iOS app powerhouse Smule offers the musically inclined mobile gamer a new twist on the virtual virtuoso theme. Playing along with popular hits using the iPhone (or iPad and iPod Touch — Guitar! is a universal app) touchscreen isn’t revolutionary.

Many past apps, including some of Smule’s own (Ocarina, anyone?) have been built around this functionality. But Guitar! stands out from the crowd, because it offers another layer of interactivity. Let’s dig into it after the jump.  (more…)

My wife and I were walking through the mall the other day, when we came across a Disney store. As we were pushing our three-month-old daughter through the crowded shop she said to me, “It’s sad that our kids won’t have the same relationship with Mickey Mouse that we did. He’s just a mascot now; hardly much more than a character on a letterhead.”

So where has he been? Turns out that Disney feels that the character still has some kick left in him, and it shows in their latest game, Where’s My Mickey? Although it’s a Mickey-fied take on another game (a Disney one, granted), it provides a good amount of fun for a reasonable price. Are you down to see what the mouse has in store for us? Then head on in. (more…)
