If there’s one genre of app that takes advantage of almost every sensor that the iPhone contains, it’s fitness apps. By monitoring and tracking our progress, they can be a key motivational tool to power through and keep up the exercise regime, and I see more people than ever with an iPhone strapped to their arm.
Nike has long been at the forefront of blurring the lines between fitness and technology, having started with their Nike+iPod sensor over seven years ago and continues to do so with Nike+ Running. It’s been some time since we initially published our Nike+ GPS review (over two and a half years ago, to be precise) and, since then, both the app and the Nike+ running service have undergone some fundamental changes.
Monitoring one’s health and fitness via gadgets and gizmos has become a hot trend as of late, but Argus is surging past all the other contenders. I did not want to become a statistic of giving up on being more healthy this new year, so I stared to look into how to track healthy habits.
Activity trackers have become more popular within recent months and definitely peaked my interest. Previously, the Jawbone Up band was released and failed. In fact, Jawbone allowed users to receive a full refund for the band, which is something unheard of in the technology market. Recently, Jawbone released a new version of their Up band with some app updates. They claim to have fixed the numerous problems and bricking that users were experiencing. I may have only lasted two weeks as a boy scout (when I was five), but the boy scout motto, “be prepared,” has stuck with me throughout my life. Now, I can’t say I’ve always been the model of preparedness, but as I’ve gotten older I’ve made an effort (such as keeping track of my belongings) to be as ready as possible if some unforeseen event occurred.
