Individual task management can be hard enough to tackle, but trying to get tasks done within teams can be a nightmare. With the recent interest in getting tasks done, a lot of collaborative task management software and web services have come to market. One of the more popular options is Basecamp. The AppStorm team of writers started using Basecamp several months ago, and it has been a nice way to bring everyone into one area for collaboration and team discussion. It works great when a person needs some ideas to include in an article or if an editor needs to communicate with everyone. The other alternative is through email, which can be a disaster to organize. Thankfully, Basecamp makes it easy to keep everything in one place.
Since Basecamp is based on the web, the main access is through their website. While it is accessible on your iPhone, it is not ideal. It’s been said many times before on AppStorm, and I’ll say it again — the App Store is littered with to-do apps. Ranging in price and functionality, an abundance of options are at your disposal if you’re in the market for an app that will help manage your task list. Basic users may be satisfied with the Reminders app that comes pre-installed on the iPhone, or may prefer simplified to-do apps like Clear. Mid-range users that need a little more functionality may choose an app like Things, while advanced users may go with OmniFocus.

Up until now, I have been using my iPhone’s standard calendar as a personal to-do list, since I hadn’t really found a to-do list application that I fell in love with. For tasks like picking up groceries and getting a hair-cut, this might be okay, but when it comes to planning trips, shopping for birthdays, Christmas gifts (I know a little late but bear with me!), planning projects for work, and other complex scenarios, the integrated calendar just won’t cut it.
For this reason, I’ve spent some time investigating the different to-do list apps available in the App Store. Twenty five are rounded up here, including some generic applications, and others suited for a specific purpose (such as planning a wedding). So you’re looking for a good task manger? Join the club. We all want the same thing: something beautiful with plenty of features and automatic cloud syncing. We also don’t want to pay for either the iPhone or desktop version. The current trend in web content has taught us that we are entitled to such a service completely free of charge.

About a year ago a new task manager hit the iPhone. It was incredibly pretty, functional and played well with iCal’s tasks. 2do quickly rose in the charts of the Appstore and thanks to its continuing development established a solid user base among those in need of a task management app.
When the iPad was released, it seemed only natural that 2do should become an universal app. It has taken GuidedWays a couple of months, but the result is not just visually pleasing, but extends the core functionality of the app. I have reviewed 2do for the iPhone; follow me beyond the jump to see how it’s performing on the iPad.
My search is finally over. After many years of jumping back and forth between various task management tools, I think I’ve finally found the one that I’m going to stick with. I’ve tried many apps. On the desktop, Things led the pack for a long time, though its lack of over-the-air syncing between iPhone and desktop was a real problem for me, and there were aspects of its design that I never really liked. I also used Remember the Milk for a year or two, but eventually decided I wanted a desktop application.
For the past six months or so I’ve come back to OmniFocus, which I first started using in its original beta period. Though it’s got quite a steep learning curve, I’ve found a lot to love about it. The iPhone app is extremely powerful, syncs in several ways, is location-aware, and does a great job all round. And now the Omni Group has finished the set, recently releasing OmniFocus for iPad.
