It seems almost impossible to believe that just three years ago we didn’t synchronise much data between devices. Until recently, most people used just one computer to do everything. Ok, maybe two: home and work, but the fact remains that syncing data normally involved a physical device such as a USB drive.
Of course, Apple users had MobileMe to synchronise contacts and calendars between their Mac and iPhone, but this was before Apple’s Reminders app existed. Despite a whole App Store packed with countless task managers, none allowed the wireless syncing of data until 6Wunderkinder shook things up with Wunderlist and its cloud syncing across different devices. Even before the launch of the App Store, people were consumed with finding ways to be more productive. Technology has both hindered and attempted to help at solving that problem. The more things we do online, the more we find that we benefit from tools to help make those things easier and take them off our minds.

To-do apps are a dime a dozen on the iPhone, and it’s hard for any one of them to stand out. To make a real impression, there has to be something new and useful brought to the table. What I always need and am always looking for is an app that lets me share my to-do list. I don’t live in a bubble, and sometimes I want to collaborate with my family and friends to get the job done.
After hiding its to-do light under Android’s bushel, Astrid recently brought social to-dos and task management to iOS. With a snappy interface and to-do sharing amongst my contacts, Astrid may be the task management app I’ve been looking for. (more…)
Todo Movies is an app that keeps track of the movies you want to watch and notifies you when new movies come out. This app has only one function unlike other movie apps on the app store like Flixter which does showtimes, movie and actor bios, and many other features including keeping track of those movies you’ve been itching to see.
If all you want is a “Todo” manager for movies you want to see, Todo Movies is definitely the best option. For all movie lovers who never again want to obsess over a movie months before and then totally forget about it when it actually comes out or just want to make a list of old movies they have been thinking about watching, Todo Movies is your best bet.
I’ve used plenty to-do list applications in my day, and shelled out quite a bit of money for them, to say the least. Some boasted much more features than others, while some were better designed. And, well, some were better than others. I have found that I prefer the simple to-do app, so I resorted to using Clear.
Then a nifty little app called Cheddar came out. It was similar to Clear because of its simplicity of design and function, but seemed to be a bit more robust when it came down to features. Over the past month I have been on a quest to find a good task manager for myself. Personally, I wanted one that was simple to use, not overloaded with features, able to sync with my iOS devices, and share with others.
After buying and testing a handful of apps, I found one that I had never heard of before and actually, I heard about it on a podcast by Mike Vardy who loved it. The task manager that I am talking about is Asana, which, after testing it for a bit, I decided that this was the one that I was going to use full time. Let me explain more about the app and why I like it so much.
There is no shortage of to-do apps in the App Store. There are apps that will sync across platforms, apps that only reside on your phone and apps that live primarily on the web. I would say that behind games and camera applications, to-do apps are the most popular in the store.
They all offer different features, and have their own strengths and weaknesses. Today we’re going to take a look at Orchestra, the app that aims to be home for your own personal to-do list and the tasks that need to get done by, or are assigned by, the other people that you work with. Up until now, I have been using my iPhone’s standard calendar as a personal to-do list, since I hadn’t really found a to-do list application that I fell in love with. For tasks like picking up groceries and getting a hair-cut, this might be okay, but when it comes to planning trips, shopping for birthdays, Christmas gifts (I know a little late but bear with me!), planning projects for work, and other complex scenarios, the integrated calendar just won’t cut it.
For this reason, I’ve spent some time investigating the different to-do list apps available in the App Store. Twenty five are rounded up here, including some generic applications, and others suited for a specific purpose (such as planning a wedding). Hopefully you’ll find a selection of very useful pieces of software!
