Podcasting has been around since the early 2000s, and it has undergone a massive amount of change since then. The mobile industry itself has seen change — gone are the iPods and Creative MP3 players, replaced by the dominance of smartphones. While the iPhone doesn’t hold the lion’s amount of market share that the iPod did, it has been enough to catapult both podcast clients and podcasts themselves to a completely new level. With iOS 7’s release date just a few (supposed) weeks away, we’ve officially entered my favorite time of year: mass update season. When a new version of iOS is set to be unleashed, most developers release updated versions of their apps to support it. While iOS 7 has plenty of goodness under the hood, the most visible shift is, of course, the brand spanking new interface design, and many apps are sure to be updated to gel with the new look.
While the more minimal look and feel of iOS 7 is new to the OS, it’s been a staple of Google’s apps for quite some time. With the release of version 2.0, YouTube now falls in line with Google’s minimal design standards, and includes an interesting new method of interacting with videos. Instagram recently released a major update, finally adding video to the popular photo sharing service. Coming months behind Twitter’s Vine app, Facebook’s Instagram is trying to gain some lost momentum.

The incredible rise of Kickstarter was one of the defining stories of 2012 with the crowd-funding service helping to fund 34,000 projects with almost $400 million in pledges. However, despite the impressive figures, critics are still abound with many lamenting the failures of projects to fulfil their promises. A charge that cannot be levied against 1 Second Everyday.
Cesar Kuriyama’s brainchild was an instant success, managing to treble its initial funding goal. Unlike delayed projects drawing ire from critics, the app was released just a month after receiving funding on January 10. The highly organised and responsive nature of the project epitomises Kickstarter’s ideals and is a model for prospective projects, however, how does the final product stack up? Let’s find out (more…)
