Cordy 2

While he may not be the most iconic character in iPhone gaming, Cordy has been the star of two games and is back now for an exciting sequel that’s bigger than ever.

Having escaped their previous predicaments, Cordy and Volt find themselves on another world confronted by evil robot minions of the nefarious Boogaloo. This cute setup sets the stage for a wonderful and accessible adventure featuring new characters and three superb environments, each more vibrant than the last.

Cordy 2 is a strong sequel that doesn’t deviate unnecessarily from the successes of its predecessors, and brings with it enough gameplay and customization fun to keep you busy for a while. Keep in mind that the free download covers only the first four levels, after which you’ll be asked to pay a fairly steep $5 to unlock the rest of the content.

Feast or Famine

Once you recover from the gorgeously stylish artwork, you’ll discover that there’s also a fun game to be found in Feast or Famine.

Building off the endless runner concept, Feast or Famine introduces an additional layer: hunting. As a stick figure called Glyph, you’ll do your best to gather food to feed your village. Different weapons are available to help you target different animals, and there are a number of secrets and unlockables hidden throughout the 40 main game levels.

The difficulty curve ramps up comfortably, and lets you become more skillful at your own pace while you admire the stunning presentation, which truly does resemble a cave painting come to life. Feast or Famine is fresh and eye-catching, and executes its genre blend with aplomb. Highly recommended.

Zombies & Trains!

Why not, right? Zombies go well with everything. They’re flexible like that.

Though trains may not have been your first thought for a combo, Zombies & Trains proves that the pairing is deadly fun. You’ll have four different game modes to explore, each of which offers fun opportunities to smash through hordes of zombies using specially outfitted killer trains. There are hilarious powerups to help you cause maximum amounts of damage, and the brisk arcade pacing keeps things light and quick. You’ll be addicted in no time.

Upgrades? Check. Combos? Check. ICloud? Check. Mayhem? Check. Recommended? Oh yeah.

Beastie Bay

New Kairosoft game, everybody! We all know what that means … new gaming addiction, fun micromanagement, cute pixel graphics … but what’s new this time around?

Well, for starters you’re on a desolate island filled with monsters. You will have to capture and train these critters as you develop a foothold on the island. If this is beginning to sound familiar, then don’t be surprised: this is a straight-up Kairosoft interpretation of Pokémon, and it actually works very well. The micromanaging gameplay is back in full force, but being offset by monster battles and exploration mechanics that keep things fresh.

Kairosoft games always adhere to their formula, but it’s wonderful to see that formula evolve and develop to include new mechanics, new challenges and new opportunities for the famously fine-tuned gameplay that made them so popular in the first place. Beastie Bay is a new opportunity to prove your skills, and one that you shouldn’t miss.

Be Together

Be Together is a colourful, simple puzzler that’s great for the kids.

Maya and Ruby are cute little blobs, and all they want is to be close to one another. Each level therefore presents you with an environment and some props that you need to arrange so that when you hit play, the laws of physics work their magic to bring the two characters together. Alongside the main gameplay, you’ll also be able to collect animals and unlock bonus levels beyond the primary 60. Unsurprisingly, there’s also a star mechanic encouraging you to solve each level in the “best” possible way.

With a gentle difficulty level and adorable presentation, Be Together offers a sweet distraction for the young and young at heart.
